Australia Post Shared Services

Location Rosslyn Street, West Melbourne VIC
Project Completion 2000
Project Size 4,300m2

Project Description This existing Australia Post Processing Centre building in West Melbourne required an extra storey to accommodate national IT services and data storage facilities. The envelope of the extension draws upon the principal material theme of the existing building, mimicking the brick pattern below with Vitrapanel. Other elevations continue to play on the form and function of the original building; the external windows provide a clean take on the existing 1940’s shelf windows, and feature walls which hint at the nature of the building.

Inside the processing centre is designed with an emphasis on light and circulation. The large fenestrations provide ample light and a link with the exterior world. This connection is further reinforced with numerous breakout spaces across the level. Cafe spaces provide a warm and relaxing atmosphere, which are combined with external decking spaces which visually link the extension to the redbrick warehouses nearby.
