RMIT University Building 55 Advanced Manufacturing Precinct

Location RMIT University, Melbourne Campus, Carlton VIC
Project Completion 2011
Project Size 2,500m2

Project Description The RMIT Advanced Manufacturing Precinct project, completed in 2011, provides facilities to support the integration of industry engagement in skills formation and innovative manufacturing solutions that are responsive to emerging trends. Through specialist research and collaborative environments, in addition to general teaching spaces and shared informal areas, collaboration and integration with industry will be fostered and developed.

The project involves the re-use of existing built infrastructure, recognising the reduced construction impact of this approach, while also addressing the need to update educational facilities in line with current and future demands. It is designed to support a focused local, national and global teaching and research perspective, reflecting the need for institutions to respond to these new trends and technologies.

The project was formally designed and documented to achieve a five star Green Star rating, involving ongoing collaboration during all project phases with a wide range of project stakeholders and the extended design team. Integrating five star outcomes for the project required an over-arching approach and commitment to innovative design solutions.
